“Gary Null examines the increasingly common practice of prescribing psychotropic drugs for children – including preschoolers as young as age 2 to 4 – who have been diagnosed with ADD, or ADHD. In the absence of any objective medical tests to determine who has ADD or ADHD, doctors rely in part on standardized assessments and the impressions of teachers and guardians while the they administer leave little room for other causes or aggravating factors, such as diet, or environment.
Hence, diagnosing a child or adolescent with ADD or ADHD is often the outcome, although no organic basis for either disease has yet to be clinically proven. Psychiatrists may then prescribe psychotropic drugs for the children without first without making it clear to parents that these medications can have severe side-effects including insomnia, loss of appetite, headaches, psychotic symptoms and even potentially fatal adverse reactions, such as cardiac arrhythmia. And yet, despite these dangers, many school systems actually work with government agencies to force parents to drug their children, threatening those who refuse with the prospect of having their children taken from the home unless they cooperate.
To some, this looks like institutionalized child abuse in the name of mental health, where naturally active and inquisitive children are drugged into submission while the pharmaceutical industry prospers. New York Times bestselling author, Gary Null, Ph.D., an acclaimed documentary filmmaker and syndicated radio host, investigates this potentially tragic abuse.” – Taken in whole from Youtube

The following list outlines the main nuclear accidents involving fissile material, fission or a nuclear reactor. This list does not show military accidents and it does not show the radioactive accidents outside of nuclear reactors and fission / fissile matter.
My questions will always be roughly the same regarding nuclear.
Why do we need to introduce more nuclear waste into the equation and the obvious problems relating to it’s storage?
Why do we need to increase the risk of more nuclear accidents by building more reactors.
Given some effort we could create a hugely successful alternative industry, firstly to replace coal and gas and eventually phase out the existing nuclear. I know this will require a big effort, but I really believe it could be done without nukes.

December 12, 1952 Chalk River, Ontario Reactor core damaged
A reactor shutoff rod failure, combined with several operator errors, led to a major power excursion of more than double the reactor’s rated output at AECL’s NRX reactor. The operators purged the reactor’s heavy water moderator, and the reaction stopped in under 30 seconds. A cover gas system failure led to hydrogen explosions, which severely damaged the reactor core. The fission products from approximately 30 kg of uranium were released through the reactor stack. Irradiated light-water coolant leaked from the damaged coolant circuit into the reactor building; some 4,000 cubic meters were pumped via pipeline to a disposal area to avoid contamination of the Ottawa River. Subsequent monitoring of surrounding water sources revealed no contamination. No immediate fatalities or injuries resulted from the incident; a 1982 followup study of exposed workers showed no long-term health effects. Future U.S. President Jimmy Carter, then a nuclear engineer in the US Navy, was among the cleanup crew.
May 24, 1958 Chalk River, Ontario Fuel damaged
Due to inadequate cooling a damaged uranium fuel rod caught fire and was torn in two as it was being removed from the core at the NRU reactor. The fire was extinguished, but not before radioactive combustion products contaminated the interior of the reactor building and to a lesser degree, an area surrounding the laboratory site. Over 600 people were employed in the clean-up.
July 26, 1959 Santa Susana Field Laboratory, California Partial meltdown
A partial core meltdown took place when the Sodium Reactor Experiment (SRE) experienced a power excursion that caused severe overheating of the reactor core, resulting in the melting of one-third of the nuclear fuel and significant releases of radioactive gases.

“Part one describes an agricultural crisis of pandemic proportions: the catastrophic loss of topsoil. Sustainably-farmed soil holds up to 30% more carbon than conventional agriculture. Converting most farmland to organic would reduce CO2.” – Quantumshift

Firstly I’ll point out that I’m confrontational, I don’t believe that being a ‘nice’ guy works in politics or business, especially when the other side is bent on winning no matter what. If my ‘attitude’ makes you feel uneasy or upsets you so be it, there are plenty of non confrontational web sites out there for you to choose from… I’m interested in catering for those who have had enough of the corruption both in spirit and deed.
From memory (such as it is) Percy Schmeiser’s crop, which his family farm had spent a considerable number of years developing to suit his methods and the area he lived in, was polluted (cross pollinated) by Monsanto’s local crops. My ‘memory’ is of a relatively small organic farmer being screwed by Monsanto, a huge Industrial farming business basically managed by ‘Bankers’ and Lawyers (spit on the ground) with deep pockets… and as we all know, he who has the most money will almost always win in a court battle.
Monsanto must be stopped!
It’s Organic farmers like Percy Schmeiser, a winner of the Mahatma Ghandi award, verses Monsanto and it’s Industrial farming business… I don’t see Monsanto ever winning a Mahatma Ghandi award with it’s genetically engineered species which produce the sterile ‘seeds of destruction’, that force even the poorest farmers to go back to Monsanto every season, because the next seasons seeds will not sprout.

Take note fellow Australians and put the spot light on the Australian State & Federal Governments about this appalling situation of allowing Monsanto’s GM in Australia… they must be stopped, hassle your State & Federal MPs, point out that their jobs, and for some, their pensions are on the chopping block.
Some of you may also remember Percy’s battle with Monsanto some years back.

W2Energy has patented a biomass plasma reactor to convert biomass or coal to syngas as well as either diesel or gasoline, at a fraction of the cost of fossil-based fuels.
The process involves a relatively low temperature plasma reaction (700 to 1000 degrees F) heating the biomass or coal, in an enclosed system as shown above. Other fuels which may be used could include dried sewage, peat or algae, which with heat acting as a catalyst in the conversion, would create Syngas (H2, CO).
Their claim, a 10,000 barrel per day synthetic diesel plant as well as a 100 Megawatt steam turbine with a mere 4 MW input and the excess CO2 produced converted into Carbon suboxides in the form of humic acid which would then be mixed with the ash to produce high grade organic fertilizer.

Photo: The LED Shop
It looks like the humble LED, you know that ubiquitous little red or green glow on the front of your TV, Stereo, computer or whatever, has been moved up a notch or dozen. Dr Faiz Rahman and his team of the University of Glasgow have developed what looks like a very efficient, long life and very bright white light that may soon replace the Fluro which replaced the old incandescent light globe that’s been around since Thomas Edison invented it.
The manufacturing process involves a process known as nano-imprint lithography… we’re going to hear more about the various nanos soon. Anyway, the process involves making microscopic (nano) holes in the surface of LEDs to increase the level of light they give off. I’m not sure how drilling holes in a transparent material increases the level of light but hey if it works and there’s no downside cool.
I’m currently using the ‘new’ Fluros, but contra to what I’d heard they do give off some heat (otherwise known as energy leakage) and I had to change one of the light shades because the fluro resonated with it… one of those barely audible annoying buzzes. Other than that and perhaps the price since I’ve not had the Fluros long enough to realize their relative cost effectiveness I am happy with them.
Being a male I love a new gadget and the new LED lighting looks more gadgety than the fluros. My brother, who seems to have a thing for torches, has recently researched and bought a very gadgety looking LED torch which is definitely brighter than any other torch I’ve seen.
It will be interesting this new push for more efficient and better quality lighting. The LEDs in TV Laptops, monitors, phones and Palms (I have a thing for real Palms) itself is it seems to be replaced by OLEDs, ‘O’ for organic and I can’t wait to see where that heads. A techo friend in the know says the OLEDs may eventually be fully transparent windows… but that’s for another post when they have more to show us.

but Australia’s new Agriculture Minister Tony Burke looks to GM.
“Excerpt from Aug 14, 1999 Vancouver Sun article by Dave Margoshes.
Monsanto, headquartered in St.Louis, makes the popular herbicide Roundup. Farmers all over the Prairies –Schmeiser among them — spray it on their fields, whereupon it kills every-thing growing there. Then they plant.
Using the controversial alchemy of genetic engineering, which has alarmed environmentalists and consumers, Monsanto has developed a canola seed completely immune to Roundup. That means a farmer can spray the herbicide over a planted field, kill all the weeds growing there, but not hurt the crop — as long as it comes from Monsanto’s seed.
The company sells the seed — about half the canola planted in Saskatchewan this year comes from it — but keeps the rights to the DNA itself.
It means that, rather than save seeds from last year’s crop to use this year, as many do — and as Schmeiser traditionally does — farmers have to buy new seed from Monsanto each year.
In order to protect its investment, Monsanto has been vigilant in rooting out frugal farmers who might be cheating and saving seed, or borrowing a bit of seed from neighbours.
Farmers buying Monsanto’s seed must sign a contract promising to buy fresh seed every year. And they must let Monsanto inspect their fields.”

“Monsanto & Gene Giants Tighten Control Over Global Seed Stocks
…But corporate control and ownership of seeds – the first link in the food chain – has far-reaching implications for global food security. A single firm, Monsanto, now controls 41% of the global market share in commercial maize seed, and one-fourth of the world market in soybean seeds. The same company’s seeds and biotech traits accounted for 88% of the total area planted in genetically modified seeds worldwide in 2004.”

The light is poor, but the message in the video is good.
Kristie and Rick Knoll operate a small organic farm using biodynamic procedures in Brentwood, California. Below is a quote from Rick and Kristie’s website.
“The only way soil develops is by plant roots penetrating and interacting with it. And the only way this interaction is sustainable is if untold numbers and types of soil microorganisms flourish in and on the plants’ roots and vascular systems. This interaction is so complex that, though we may know the complete DNA of many animals, no one has unraveled the miracle of soil—a miracle so complete that the plant and soil interaction becomes a continuum. This soil continuum is the only situation that produces truly nutritious food which, in turn, restores our bodies on a daily basis.”

Personally I believe that it’s nothing less than a grab at controlling our food totally.
