Planned and perceived obsolescence… see the toaster re Planned Obsolescence. As for Perceived Obsolescence, well I have some experience with that. Being a Hippie you learn that the ’system’ abhors anarchy… specially an anarchy of a fashion that you can’t manipulate easily. Sure, and I’m embarrassed to admit that they sucked us in with flared pants; excuse me while I blush. But Hippies were not consumer friendly, least not as far as the system was concerned, and that was one of the main problems.

Another problem was, they weren’t big ‘drinkers, alcohol the mind number was for ‘red necks’ and fighters, most of us preferred something a bit more natural, something that was more lay back, more sociable, something that would expand our conscious not dull it. And this too was anti consumer because it wasn’t hard to grow… or find, if you preferred to have a bit of a giggle with the elves on the odd occasion.

But the Bankers and the machine men fixed that, they made it illegal, said it was bad for you… and the staples of society alcohol, sugar, tobacco, pollution, stress, prescription drugs, doctors, war etc. etc.are not? Duuh! By making things illegal they made it evil and then the system profited by turning it into a commodity.

If you doubt what I say, how about the fact the Drug business turns over in the vicinity of a Trillion dollars a year, and most of this money, one way or another, ends up in the Banks. It’s basically another way of steeling from the poor and giving to the rich when it comes down to it and this is one fat cash cow that ain’t going to be slaughtered. Contra to the belief that ‘they’re’ losing the ‘war on drugs’, nothing could be further from the truth, business is booming and the jails; another big business, ain’t doing too bad either thank you.
