Plasma process converts garbage into clean energy

January 24, 2008

Startech process

At present waste is either buried or incinerated, neither method is environmentally sound nor does it make effective use of the potential energy from the waste.

The Startech process is another system similar to the W2Energy biomass plasma reactor in a previous post, in that it uses Plasma to convert matter; often waste products whether it be solid, liquid or gaseous, in to a more suitable form for energy extraction.

The Startech process starts with shredding solid matter prior to it being fed in to the plasma vessel. Again high voltage is used to create the plasma, and the matter to be converted is subjected to this plasma. It’s then broken down to synthetic gas composed mostly of hydrogen and carbon monoxide, that in turn is converted into a clean fuel. The byproducts include valuable metals and vitrified silica which can be used in various types of construction such as buildings and roadworks depending on toxins present.

AVA to mass produce low cost solar panels

January 24, 2008

AVA low cost solar panels
Photo: AVA Solar

Colorado based, AVA Solar inc has developed a system of mass producing low cost, high efficiency solar panels. The panels are expected to retail for approximately $2 per watt, bringing the cost of producing solar electricity down to approximately equivelent to grid power.

The panels are expected to begin production at the beginning of 2009. The current factory is expected to produce enough panels per year to produce 200 Megawatts of electricity. This is equivalent to 40,000 new US homes every year that could be supplied with clean green power.

The technology has been developed by W. S. Sampath, Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University.

Prof. Sampath has developed an efficient automated manufacturing process using thin cadmium telluride film instead of the more expensive standard crystalline silicon. The production can also be performed at a much higher rate, further reducing the overall cost of the panels.

See all the technical details at the AVA website link below.

I really love this idea, it makes total sense to me… I’m not paid for this, so I can say, go out and buy one. No odors, worms, or bugs, you can use it anywhere, it’ll give you an endless supply of compost which is good for the garden and it’s great for the environment, how great is that!

Rare Giant Palm tree found in Madagascar

January 22, 2008

Rare Giant Palm tree found in Madagascar
Photo: BBC News

A rare giant Palm has recently been discovered in Madagascar by Botanists… which is kind of strange since they say it can be seen in satellite photos. The tree which they believe is related to an Asian palm some 6,000 km away, survived some 80m years on the island of Madagascar after it’s split with India.

The Palm is believed to live for some 100 years, but apparently it dies after it’s one and only flowering, because it uses up so much of its energy in the growth of its initial asparagus like top, which then develops into a Christmas tree like flowering crown. The Palm Grows to some 20m in height with leaves up to 5m long and it’s a wonder that it has survived.

To date Scientists have identified some 92 individual trees limited to the same remote area and they are at present trying to collect seed for this unique Giant Palm, which the locals know as Tahina spectabilis, which is Malagasy for ‘blessed’ or appropriately ‘to be protected’.

Dolphins Playing with Bubble Rings

January 21, 2008

Video: Metacafe

Only a soulless individual would not be uplifted by the sight of Dolphins, but Dolphins displaying their playful intelligence in uniquely stunning ways such as seen in the above footage is a lesson for adults to play more, play more with their kids, with each other and with their dogs if one has one. I’m not talking about competitive playing but playing in the uninhibited way… just for the hell of it.

W2 Energy Inc. Biomass & Coal to Clean Energy

January 20, 2008

W2 Energy Inc. Biomass to Energy Plant
Graphic: investorshub.com

W2Energy has patented a biomass plasma reactor to convert biomass or coal to syngas as well as either diesel or gasoline, at a fraction of the cost of fossil-based fuels.

The process involves a relatively low temperature plasma reaction (700 to 1000 degrees F) heating the biomass or coal, in an enclosed system as shown above. Other fuels which may be used could include dried sewage, peat or algae, which with heat acting as a catalyst in the conversion, would create Syngas (H2, CO).

Their claim, a 10,000 barrel per day synthetic diesel plant as well as a 100 Megawatt steam turbine with a mere 4 MW input and the excess CO2 produced converted into Carbon suboxides in the form of humic acid which would then be mixed with the ash to produce high grade organic fertilizer.

Meet the Dr. Mengele of Whales

Commentary by Paul Watson
Founder and President of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

“Meet Luis Pastene, the Dr. Mengele of the Cetacean world. This Chilean-born biostitute for hire is employed by the Japanese Cetacean Research Institute (CRI) and his job is to mutilate whales to finger, probe and gawk at their blubber, livers, ear-plugs, ovaries and testes, bones, lungs, skin and even the fetuses from thousands of whales.

Dr. Pastene loves his job as a whale vivisector and feels victimized by people who are concerned for protecting whales. “I’m getting so tired of the biased articles I read in Western newspapers each year at this time,” says Dr Pastene. “It’s time someone told the truth,” he insists.”

Warning about Global warming in 1958!!!

January 18, 2008

Video: YouTube via Greenpeace

In 1958 we were warned and still today SOME People / Countries / Governments are not acting quickly enough.

Some countries are doing a great deal about installing environmentally friendly systems. A number of the European countries seem to be leading the way.

What do we have to do to get major environmentally friendly systems in place in every corner of the globe.

Do we need to vote out any government who isn’t doing as much as they can.

People need to show that they are not prepared to take the inaction that seems to be going on in many countries.

People power needs to make a big comeback! Lets see what we can do.

My proposal is that all governments everywhere need to are brought to task on their environmental policies. If they don’t offer good and imediate solutions then we need to get rid of them.

Nuclear Power will not save the planet…

January 17, 2008

it’s way too expensive, would take way too long to build the plants they want. In Australia they were talking about 25 of them, in your neighborhoods, near your waterways and probably up wind of you. They are lying when they say they have solved the waste problems, that it’s safe, that it’s the solution to global warming… in fact for years they have been denying global warming!

The only reasons why it’s being supported is because it’s another power monopoly, it’s a con… the very same corporations that created the problems with their coal and petroleum, are now telling us through the politicians they’ve bought, that Nuclear power is safe. Hey if it’s safety they are promoting, how does it compare to wind, solar, tidal, geothermal… obviously there is no comparison, they are barefaced liars who want to go on controlling the power so they can keep on raking in the money… that’s the one thing that Nuclear Power really does well, make a lot of money for a few.

History of the Universe Part 1

January 16, 2008

Video: YouTube

It’s a reality check for those true thinkers, we possibly don’t rate a mention in the scheme of things universal… still though it would be a pity to allow a few to trade what we had and still have to an extent, for their material gain or the illusion of power.

World’s only blue eyed koala

Named Frankie, This koala from DreamWorld in Queensland Australia is the only Blue eyed Koala known to exist in the World.

Koala’s are a protected animal in Australia. They are endangered and have faced many problems over the years since white settlement in Australia.

The Koala was hunted almost to extinction in the early 1900’s and although they are not hunted today they still face problems such as habitat destruction, a disease called chlamydia, deliberately lit bush fires and domestic dogs as well.
