FIGHT TO SAVE THE TAMAR RIVER!

You know ’some people say’ (a little FOXism), “the only person ever to enter parliament with honest intentions was Guy Fawkes. Although nowadays we don’t hang draw and quarter offenders, for those who seek to serve themselves be warned, the punishment varies from jail to humiliation.

GONE with a bit of luck in a few days, along with the other ‘environmental vandals’ (and some people say FOXism ;-).

Below is a google map showing the proposed expansion site for the Gunns Kraft Pulp Mill at Longreach on the Tamar River.

This is an amazingly scenic area full of natural wonder and beauty. The area also has huge eco-tourism potential.

However, if Gunns along with help from Malcolm Turnbull and Co, get their way there may well be an abundance of toxins spewed out into the surrounding river and estuaries, which we believe will almost certainly severely damage the local ecosystems.

… and don’t let the screen door hit you on your way out!

The Australian election was a SLAUGHTER, John Howard and the other ‘environmental vandals’ are out.

The irony is that ’some people’ are blaming the very same seat (The former Hon Jackie Kelly’s) that got Howard over the line in ‘96 may now be responsible for Howard losing his own seat in ‘07. According to a report on the November 22, 2007 (two days before the election) in the Sydney Morning Herald:-

“A former Liberal Party campaign worker says retiring MP Jackie Kelly and her supporters have form distributing bogus election material”.

Again from the Herald:-

“Outgoing Liberal MP Jackie Kelly says a bogus pamphlet that portrays Labor as sympathisers of Islamic terrorists and was distributed by her husband was just a “Chaser-style of prank”.

The Liberal Party was flailing last night after a senior NSW party official and Ms Kelly’s husband, Gary Clarke, were implicated in the dirty tricks campaign involving race hate in Ms Kelly’s former western suburbs seat of Lindsay.”

ON A PERSONAL NOTE

I believe that the totally outrageous lies which seemed to have been such a big part of the way the Howard government has operated has taken on a life of it’s own, they are it seems so addicted to their dependence on lies it seems that they can do little else and like all addicts they deny their addiction.

The ‘children overboard’, their reasons for the ‘War on Iraq’ and the AWB fiasco, are I believe indicative of bigoted, racist and sociopathic behaviours… I just hope that the damage they have done to our international relations and to Muslims in general takes a lot less time healing than Howard & Co. spent inflicting.

For the way ‘we’ have treated the innocent Australian Aborigines, Vietnamese, Laotians, Cambodians, Timorese and Muslims in their own countries I am truly sorry.

Now it remains to be seen if the new Labor government takes heed of the changing fortunes of the Howard government. Personally my hope is that the Australian citizens will do exactly what the politicians don’t want them to do… and that is to take an interest in politics, then push for a banning of political donations, next we should take a lesson from the Swiss and pressure the government to run referendums on all critical issues, especially those of privatization.

ALGAE - THE HOLY GRAIL OF BIOFUEL?

Our View
This technology has been around for a while now and we really believe it has some definite advantages on a commercial scale.

The use of algae can greatly reduce the Nitrogen Dioxide and Carbon Dioxides released from power generation and the algae can then be reused in dried form for any number of different energy sources.

Checkout our next post for a more detailed video on the advantages of using algae.

Controversial study feeds plankton iron to combat Climate Change

November 21, 2007

Feeding Iron to Plankton
Photo: Jerry Prezioso

Californian company Planktos Corp is currently researching a controversial theory which suggests that feeding iron dust to Plankton will significantly increase their growth.

The microscopic Plankton are known for their ability to absorb Carbon Dioxide and the theory is if you increase the number of plankton you absorb more Carbon Dioxide and counter climate change.

Planktos is on it’s way to to an area 320 kilometres west of The Galapagos Islands and plan to seed an area 50-100 kilometres in diameter with 50-100 metric tonnes of iron powder.

The study, if successful could prove very lucrative for Planktos due to the growth of Carbon Markets, where polluting companies can offset their emissions by paying money to countries and organisations who plant forests to absorb the carbon dioxide.

Not everyone agrees with Planktos’ ideas though and “The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, which patrols the Galapagos Islands to protect them from ecological threats, has pledged to stop Planktos.”

Scientists and Oceanographers who are critical of Planktos’ theories say that not enough research has been done to perform tests of this magnitude and especially in a critical ecosystem such as the Galapagos Islands.

Our View: Relatively untested theory which may have potential to cause harm to delicate ecosystems.

New report indicates, Earth and Humanity now in permanent danger due to global warming.

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has released its fourth report on climate change, indicating that Earth and humanity are now in permanent danger due to global warming.

“Earth and humanity are now in permanent danger due to global warming” now I don’t know about you, but that is more than just a bit scary to me.

Now on a slightly brighter note the report also states that we can turn this around
as shown in the quote below, but we must act now.

“The IPCC reported that the effectiveness of mitigation efforts over the next two or three decades would have a large impact on the ability to stabilize atmospheric greenhouse gases at lower levels.”

More mega storms to come…

a lot more

We recently found this collection of nine amazing storm photos, mostly from a Canadian blogsite, however we forgot to save the URL. If anybody knows the site please let us know via the comments.

Enjoy the photos, I found the cloud formations and colors absolutely incredible, would love to have been there in person.

Anyway, unless we start doing something about global warming, then these sorts of storms might soon be considered to be small.
