… and don’t let the screen door hit you on your way out!
The Australian election was a SLAUGHTER, John Howard and the other ‘environmental vandals’ are out.
The irony is that ’some people’ are blaming the very same seat (The former Hon Jackie Kelly’s) that got Howard over the line in ‘96 may now be responsible for Howard losing his own seat in ‘07. According to a report on the November 22, 2007 (two days before the election) in the Sydney Morning Herald:-
“A former Liberal Party campaign worker says retiring MP Jackie Kelly and her supporters have form distributing bogus election material”.
Again from the Herald:-
“Outgoing Liberal MP Jackie Kelly says a bogus pamphlet that portrays Labor as sympathisers of Islamic terrorists and was distributed by her husband was just a “Chaser-style of prank”.
The Liberal Party was flailing last night after a senior NSW party official and Ms Kelly’s husband, Gary Clarke, were implicated in the dirty tricks campaign involving race hate in Ms Kelly’s former western suburbs seat of Lindsay.”
ON A PERSONAL NOTE
I believe that the totally outrageous lies which seemed to have been such a big part of the way the Howard government has operated has taken on a life of it’s own, they are it seems so addicted to their dependence on lies it seems that they can do little else and like all addicts they deny their addiction.
The ‘children overboard’, their reasons for the ‘War on Iraq’ and the AWB fiasco, are I believe indicative of bigoted, racist and sociopathic behaviours… I just hope that the damage they have done to our international relations and to Muslims in general takes a lot less time healing than Howard & Co. spent inflicting.
For the way ‘we’ have treated the innocent Australian Aborigines, Vietnamese, Laotians, Cambodians, Timorese and Muslims in their own countries I am truly sorry.
Now it remains to be seen if the new Labor government takes heed of the changing fortunes of the Howard government. Personally my hope is that the Australian citizens will do exactly what the politicians don’t want them to do… and that is to take an interest in politics, then push for a banning of political donations, next we should take a lesson from the Swiss and pressure the government to run referendums on all critical issues, especially those of privatization.
